Erdogan: Attempts to burn the Qur’an is a hate crime that must be stopped
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed, on Tuesday, that attempts to burn copies of the Holy Qur’an are a completely clear hate crime and must be stopped.
In a speech delivered during the traditional Ramadan Iftar program with ambassadors in its 14th edition at the headquarters of the Justice and Development Party in the Turkish capital, Ankara, Erdogan said that the hateful attempts to burn the Holy Qur’an are never acceptable in any way, and an end must be put to these despicable acts that hurt the feelings of about two billion people and provoke their anger.
On the other hand, the Turkish President said that the current world order is unsustainable and that there is an urgent need to reform the UN Security Council.
Erdogan added, "The system that locks the fate of humanity between the lips of 5 countries is not sustainable. There is an urgent need to reform the UN Security Council with a comprehensive approach."
With regard to the war that has been going on for more than a year between Russia and Ukraine, the Turkish president expressed his belief that a just peace could give the two parties a way out of the crisis, and thus get the region out of the whirlpool into which it was drawn.
