Researchers : Parents' optimism helps children thrive and develop

A new study conducted by the University of Chicago says that the magic recipe for raising successful children is for parents to be optimistic, stressing that pessimism is contagious and can be transmitted from parents to children.

The study, based on a poll conducted by the Wall Street Journal, confirmed that 78 percent of American parents are not confident that their children's lives will be better than theirs.

Although researchers understand the motives of pessimism among American parents, they believe that parents' behavior and beliefs are contagious to children.

The study concluded that the optimism of parents helps children thrive and develop, while negative feelings make them lose enthusiasm and hope.

In this context, the psychological and educational expert, Nihaya Al-Rimawi, said in an interview with "Sky News Arabia":

Children learn from parents, so we must pay attention to the manner of speaking so that it is far from melancholy and pessimism.

Parents' awareness of the existence of a dark outlook in their lives is the first step, and with training it can be eliminated.

When a child experiences frustration or failure, he must be helped to understand that these feelings are normal for any human being.
